Making Sourdough Starter with Potato Flakes

Natasha Krajnc

You can totally use potato flakes in place of a flour-based sourdough starter.

However, this is quite different from traditional sourdough starters, as it requires the assistance of instant yeast to rise.

For the Starter, you will need:

– 2 cups of warm water – 1/2 tsp salt – 2 tsp sugar – 1 tsp instant yeast – 4 tbsp instant potato flakes

To make the Bread, you'll need:

– 3/4 cup sugar – 1 1/2 cups warm water – 1/2 cup vegetable oil – 1 cup potato flake sourdough starter – 1 tbsp instant yeast – 1 tbsp salt – 6 cups of bread flour
